PRSI and national insurance contributions - state pensions

Hi,
I’ve received my gov.ie statement of contributions for Irish pension and have 24 years paid at class A. There are 2 years D class as employed as nurse ( then leave of absence). I have another 8 or 9 years working so TCA will be reduced state pension.
In uk I have 10 years before leaving for working in Irish hospitals. I’ve received a letter to buy back 16 years at class 3.

Please could someone advise if I contact Irish PRSI section about the 10 years of payments or would they not be counted in Ireland.

I know currently I could receive two state pensions. I was going to buy more years going forward for uk as class 3 rate.

Thanks for letting me know.
Kate

I'd query the class 3 decision and ask why weren't you eligible for class 2

In any case, class 3 is definitely woth purchasing

Apologies it’s class 2. I was going to purchase them. Can I use my 10 years paid uk contributions as evidence for Irish state pension?

It doesn't work like that - your 10 years in the UK will be used to calculate your Irish pension but only if it is to your advantage, which is unlikely as you have 24 years of Irish PRSI contributions

Definitely purchase the class 2 for as many years as you can - it's a no-brainer investment

Thanks very much, I will do that. The Irish pension doesn’t look like I’ll have full 2080 contributions with new calculation. The first few years were PRSI D - I’m a nurse but I’m not in HSE now. The contribution letter they are equal to Zero. That’s a few years lost.

If the leave of absence was to be a full time carer for a child / children under 12, then the scheme linked below may apply. In some circumstances, if for example you don't get the carers allowance when caring for someone who was ill or disabled, then this scheme may also apply.

Thanks for sharing. Yes it was for caring for relative as sole carer but I wasn’t living in Ireland - was in Northern Ireland. I can’t use that year either unfortunately. Thanks again for sharing the info.
