PRSA and Bitcoin

I am looking for an option to open a separate PRSA where I can do some AVCs and invest in Bitcoin.
I don't see any options in the Irish market for this.

Does anyone on here, with their sage advice, know how I would go about it?

I'd be interested in buying the Bitcoin ETFs as I don't think there is really any other option. Is there anyway in Ireland to set up a PRSA and invest in a specific ETF?

You'll need to set up a self-administered PRSA for this with a platform to facilitate buying the ETFs.

I know that Independent Trustee Company is one option for this. There may be others.

I’ve been getting Bitcoin exposure in my Davy Select PRSA by buying shares of MicroStrategy (ticker: MSTR). There basically a proxy for Bitcoin since the company holds BTC on its balance sheet. Their share price often tracks the crypto market pretty closely.

Unfortunately, Davy doesn’t currently allow direct crypto ETFs, so I’ve been looking at alternatives particularly to invest in an Ethereum ETF (since ETH has underperformed lately and might be due for a run). I’ve asked Standard Life if they would let me buy crypto-focused ETFs in their prsa. I’m waiting on their final response

Absolute madness. If there is anything more stupid than buying Bitcoin, it's buying MicroStrategy

How's this going? I'm keen on doing basically the same - I've got some Bitcoin exposure, but looking for more in a tax efficient way - PRSA + ETFs sounds interesting!

Did you make any progress on this? With the new European Bitcoin ETF launching, investing through a pension product seems like a great idea. Davy's seem too conservative and are using MiFiD as a reason to not support this at the moment.

Yeah, putting your pension into Bitcoin/crypto is a great idea. Sure what could go possibly wrong and who needs diversification and investment in boring boomer companies that actually sell products and services and create wealth. HODL to the moon...

Thanks for the advice and useful input. What proportion of my pension, and what proportion of my net wealth would I be putting into Bitcoin Clubman...? Is 1% a bad idea oh wise one? Would 5% be OK with you....?

It seems like the vibe in here is very anti-Bitcoin, but I'll ask anyway...

I'd like to set up an additional pension, using my AVC allowance to invest entirely in Bitcoin. I imagine the only way to do this tax-efficiently in Ireland is to set up some kind of PRSA / self-directed vehicle, and invest in one of the following ETFs:

Euronext AmsterdamBTCNUSD25.Mar.2025BNM8PJ6BTCN NAISBTCN.AS
Nyse Euronext - Euronext ParisIB1TEUR25.Mar.2025BNM6JX2IB1T FPIB1T.PA
XetraIB1TEUR25.Mar.2025BM9W7R6IB1T GYIB1T.DE

Does anyone know any financial service provider who could help set something like this up?

Thanks!

The list of PRSA providers is here. https://pensionsauthority.ie/wp-con...iders-and-Products-Register-February-2025.pdf

Off the top of my head, from that list the following firms offer self-administered PRSAs which allow you to choose your own assets. Some of them have very high charges for smaller funds.

BCWM, Cantor Fitzgerald, Davy, Goodbody, ITC, Newcourt and Quest.

You'd need to contact each of these and ask two questions...

  1. What are their charges for the amounts you have in mind?
  2. Will they allow investment via a PRSA in the ETFs you want?
