Provision of Carer

My father is a widower and lives on his own. He is currently in hospital after a fall last weekend.
It is not feasible for any of his children to live full time with him and I am wondering if the state provides any help in this situation (even a few hours per day) or does the family have to provide.

Is there any other relative living nearby or is there a trusted neighbour who could become his carer and get a Carers Allowance for providing the care (depending on his level of dependancy)

Maybe you should call in to the Public Health Nurse for his area and have a chat with her (if he is over 65). You,ll find her at his local Health Centre - best call before 10a.m. before she goes out on calls. She may be able to organise some Home Help even on a tempory basis

It might be worth your while asking to speak with the social worker that is attached to your fathers consultant's team in the hospital, to see what they could help to organise, before he is discharged.
Your father might be able to go into a convalescence facility for a while, until he is better able to manage at home +/- home help for home.
Like Blacksheep said, you could pop in to talk to your local Public Health Nurse for some help also.
