Hi there,

I am interested in opinions or experience, pros or cons of apartments which are built over an archway i.e. no building or apartment underneath.

A friend is considering taking the plunge and purchasing. The apartment block has only 2 floors and this apartment is on the higher floor with a gap/pedestrian walk underneath.

Are there any pros or cons that she should be aware of? I am thinking in terms of heating, insulation, noise etc.....

Thanks in advance,

Marge

No sure about heating but from living in an apartment a few years ago that was quite low and never got the sun it always seemed very cold. I am not a fan of storage heaterrs and this is what seems to be in all new apartment they are expensive to run and dont seem to do anything.

With regard to the walk way you will be subject to noise from people coming and going but also prying eyes.

Walkways and laneways tend to attract teenagers - even more so if there is shelter for them. I'd worry about anti-social behaviour, noise from late-night returning drunks etc.

I was talking to someone recently who has an apartment over a walkway and she was talking about how cold the apartment is & obviously how expensive it is to heat.

saw a program where kids kept hitting a ball off the bottom of an apartment like you described. Make sure it is not the type of place kids would hang out.
