hi i bought an apartment off plans 6 years ago their was no set completion date on the contract, and the developer now wants me to close on the property. does anybody know is their a reasonable time frame for the completion of a property. at the time i signed the contract the build time was 18 months

That is a crazy build time!

You need to check the purchase contract through with an independent solicitor.

The Leeds market fell hard especially for city centre flats. Having said that if you bought 6 years ago you may be up on capital.

Some info on the development here duck1. Some of the canalside developments were pretty tasteful. What group are these apts aimed at? students, first time buyers? I see on one of the pics that it advertizes for £99,999 has this dropped much from plan price? Check comments from mukky on page 6, he claims to work on the site and doesn't speak too highly of Pierce the builders. Leeds is a wonderful small city and i'm sure it will be one of the first to bounce back, although i feel they have over supply in the apt stakes. http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=346138&page=7

thanks for that reply seantheman .the apts were sold in ireland only, as far as i know
with one irish sales company.they were to be rented by people in the city centre of leeds (this was one of the first new buildings on east st at the time).one bed crash pads 450sq were sold for £105 with parking, two beds around £165 with parking.
i got a senior council opinion 3 years into the build to see were the builders taking to long to complete ,he thought at the time that it was still a reasonable time frame, 4 years from signing to completion .it has taken the builders a further 2 years to complete on some of the development and the rest is still under construction as some people have not been asked to complete yet.
i wonder are any readers of this forum in a similar situation .it would be good to hear from them
