My husband and I are in the process of buying a house and are first time buyers. We lived and rented in the U.S.A for several years and returned to Ireland 3 years ago and have been renting since then. What proof is required to show that we are first time buyers and therefore not subject to stamp dute? Any guidance would be appreciated

The Revenue should be able to prove this very quickly by doing a search on your PPS number. I had to get a form filled from them before when I was applying for an Affordable Housing mortgage to prove I was a FTB. IF you sold a property in Ireland before, or if you ever claimed interest relief on a mortgage, it should show up on your PPS number.
