Professional advice for Tax Credits

We are a married couple, jointly assessed. One is full time PAYE worker, one is part time self employed.

My query is, are there any recommendations for a company that reviews our payslips / end of year IT calculations to check we are on the right rates / tax credits etc and we're not overpaying tax?

I'm not looking for the "put your money into a pension to save on tax" type of advice, I'm looking at how we can if we're on the right rate at the moment, or to make recommendations going limited company etc.

I feel we pay a lot of tax at the moment, I just want to make sure it's the right rate. Any advice / recommendations would be appreciated

It is likely that you submit a Form 12 or a Form 11.

Do you check the SoL issued by the Revenue?

When you file a joint assessed tax return declaring all your sources of income both PAYE and non PAYE while claiming any tax credits/reliefs you are entitled to; the tax return calculations take everything into account. So if one spouse had overpaid or not utilised all of their transferable rate and or credits, it's all taken into account when your Notice of Assessment/Statement of liabilities issues. Do you review your Notice of assessment/statement of liabilities? Do you feel you are missing some credits/reliefs?

Most common tax credits/offsets outside of paye/personal are

Health expenses (those paid by you even if on behalf of someone else eg your kids or parents ) @ 20%
Remote working relief
Relief on health insurance if paid by employer (up to 1k per adult and 500 eur per child) @ 20%
Flat rate expenses for certain professions (tools, uniforms etc)
Rent tax credit
Mortgage tax credit (check criteria)

If any of the above apply to you and you haven't yet reclaimed them, you can resubmit a tax return in 2025 for 2011-2024 on Revenue.ie and get a refund. Take a close look on the revenue site what is under each heading eg health expenses covers a lot, criteria for some of the others.

How does the part-time worker make their tax return ? I'd imagine a Form 11 which is quite good at making the calculations for you. You just need to check the list misemoi mentioned above to see if you can add small bits to it.
