I am in the process of applying for professional added years.
When the standard formula is applied, I get 3 added years and this has been agreed by my HR office. The issue is how this will be abated with other service etc.
One complication is I served my time as an Electrical Apprentice with the ESB. I subsequently purchased this 4 years service.
While I was an apprentice, I could not study for a Degree or Masters as I was already in full time training / education.
The apprenticeship was not needed for the position I was recruited to.
Is there any case that can be made to exclude the time served from the abatement, and / or say that I was not in a position to commence my full time education at 19. And the 3 years should have some added years for the time taken up by the apprenticeship.
I think addressing this successfully in the application is very important in my case.
Any advice very welcome, I am sure I am not unique in this.
