Problem with play.com gift voucher

Hi there

I got a gift voucher for play.com for my birthday for £20 sterling. The problem is that I can't use it as to shop in sterling you have to have a UK address. They will only let you shop in euro with an Irish address.

I have sent emails querying this to a couple of addresses for play.com that I found on-line but haven't received any reply. Having googled how to contact play.com, it seems that that it is a notoriously hard thing to do.

Has anyone else come across a way around this or am I just going to have to write it off as a 'dud' birthday present?

It does state in their terms and conditions that vouchers are available in sterling only and cannot be used with euro purchases. Do you know anyone in the UK who would place your order for you? You can email them the voucher and get it delivered to your own Irish address for free. Have a look at: http://www.play.com/HOME/HOME/6-/Help.html?page=giftq
 
Can you not just click the £ sign & British flag up on the top right hand corner of the page which will display the prices in sterling & use BT11AA for postcode?

If you shop in sterling and then try to pick Ireland as the country for your address, the website doesn't let you proceed with the transaction.

I think that the only way around this would be to know someone in the UK and ask them if you can use their address and then pay for postage from them to Ireland. Unfortunately I don't know anyone so it looks like play.com has gained £20 for doing nothing.

A bit of a disappointing birthday present.......

What I was suggesting was that considering you have nothing to lose, that you choose UK in the dropdown menu when registering & using a Belfast postcode, & your ROI address in the address box. The chances are that your item could find it's way to you from Belfast. There is no guarantee that it would, but if it's a case that you would otherwise be throwing the voucher away it's certainly worth a try, once you make sure that the item costs less than the voucher amount.
