problem with dvd player

we've been having a few problems with our dvd player. DVD's keep freezing or pixelating at random intervals whilst playing. Have tried cleaning discs and player but it's still happening. Have cross checked dvd's which don't work on our player on a portable tv/dvd combi and they work fine which suggests that it's our dvd player. It's a bit old now I suppose but it's a lovely piece of furniture it's a pioneer home cinema NS-DV55 and I like to keep it. I know this model does not support DivX but do the problems I've mentioned suggest the laser is going or what? Has anyone gotten a laser replaced lately?

Yeah it sounded like your laser is indeed on its last legs.

As for replacing it, I have never had this done so don't know how much it would cost or who could do it.

I know the unit in question and it is a nice piece, and can see why you'd want to get it fixed rather than replace it.

But if not possible to fix, they are some very nice units out there now, and prices have never been better.
