Problem opening downloads

When I try to open certain downloads ,the open with the above type of text.
It is impossible to read this ,how can I overcome this problem.Thanks

You do not appear to have the application associated with whatever you are trying to download or the file/application association is incorrect on your PC/Laptop.

What is the extension on the file you are trying to download?

For example something.PDF or something.DOCX.
 
It can vary it ( am not techie so bear with me)it may be a .Doc or some other type of file.I am using Windows mail and do not have this problem when using Outlook on home pc.
Is the fact that it is opening in Wordpad of any significance.Dont have the problem with HTML files .Is this information of any help.
 
Then you do not have MS/Office on the PC/Laptop where you are receiving the emails or the association between DOC files & WORD has been lost.

Assuming its the lack of MS/Word, you can download OPEN OFFICE free of charge, it will open MS/OFFICE files.

Correct I do have Office on PC but not on Laptop.I have Microsoft Works on Laptop.
If I follow your instructions should I then be able to solve problem.

Thanks for help have made some progress in that I can now read .DOC files.
Just need to make sure that I can now print downloads .
