We're having a bit problem in our estate with people setting off fire extinguishers for fun. Sometimes this is kids playing about, other times it's drunk people coming out of parties. Usually no-one sees it happening so it's hard to pin the blame on anyone.

Has anyone any ideas how to prevent this? Is it possible to alarm them so at least it might discourage people?

Yes, I've seen them in student accomadation for this reason. You can also buy cabinets for the extinguishers, that might prevent easy access.

Another alternative it to install CCTV and monitor the extinguishers.

Cool, thanks for that. CCTV isn't an option because we'd need 99 cameras across 33 buildings but the alarms sound like a good option.

If you look at the extinguishers there will prob be a sticker from the company that services them. Contact them to get a quote to fit such equipment.

There is a risk that alarms could make the extinguishers more fun/challenge for those who get a kick out of setting them off. How would kids be getting access to the building?

In terms of visitors, perhaps an education campaign might help - making owners aware that they are paying for the costs of these through their management fees. This might make develop a kind of community responsiblity to solving the problem.
