Problem downloading iPhone/iPad software updates

Hope somebody will be able to assist

Each time a download for the iPhone or iPad is tried, the following message appears:

There was a problem downloading the software for thge iPhone / iPad The network connection timed out.

Make sure your network se ttings are active and your connection is correct


Any chance somebody could assist before I go mental.

Download it through iTunes onto your computer, then install it via the USB cable?

I know, you shouldn't have to.
 
Thanks DrMoriarty However this is the problem as soon as downloaded the update the message as stated above appears. Tried turning off my Firewall but to no avail Other iPads and iPhones, working through the same modem, do not have any problems with the download
 
this happened to my friend's mobile and he reseted his internet settings... that worked for him...
