Probate on getting name changed on property

I was wondering if someone could clarify for me.

Do you have to put property into probate if you are looking to get name changed on deeds to property?

Only one person is in will, do land registry people need will to go into probate?

More info required. Question is not clear.

If property was held in joint names as joint tenants and one joint owner dies, the property passes to the other- no Probate needed to file a change of ownership, a death cert is sufficient for Land Registry to note the joint owner as only owner.

My initial assumption was probate was only used in extraordinary circumstances, but with your mail and some checking have found it is the norm.
