Probate necessary??

Hi. I'm hearing very conflicting things regarding my situation so all advice is greatly appreciated.

I've lived with my dad for the past 20 years. He has passed and left a will. I am the sole beneficiary and the executor. I have no siblings.

There is no money involved in the estate but there is the family home.

Does it need to go through probate? If so can I do the process of probate myself?

Is it a case of simply getting the house changed to my name? How do I this?

Thanks in advance

Probate is necessary to give you the authority to register the house in your name.

Applying for probate yourself is a little tricky but perfectly manageable. Saves thousands.

Yes, you will need to go through probate and also probably as part of that get a tax clearance certificate on your fathers affairs. If all he had was a state pension and no savings or investments, that should be straightforward enough.
End to end and depending on where you live in the country, it could take ballpark a year to be completed.

The information in the above link should help inform the OP about the process, and whether they feel they can or should do it themselves as a personal applicant.

Having been a personal applicant myself in the past I would recommend it whilst acknowledging that it isn't for everyone either.
