Capitalism and privatization were buzzwords invoked in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and Noughties to take essential services and assets out of the hands of the state in the name of increased profitability and competitiveness.

We have seen the result of this in microcosm in Russia.

A rise in wealth, but its concentration into the hands of the few, with no benefit to the many - the privatization of profit, by the securitization of debt and - to add insult to injury - the socialization of losses.

"Givvus your toys to play with, we'll rent them back to you, but when we break them, you can pay for them."

Five years away from Serfdom:

  • The destruction of the western middle classes.
  • The indebtedness of sovereign states.
  • Golden handshakes for criminals.
  • Soft landings for the bankers.
  • The rest of us living in tents.
A New Deal? A Good Deal? Any kind of deal?

Nope. As in "no-hope". Nope. No future.

"The hour is darkest just before the dawn" they say.

For those with no hope the hour is darkest just before the light goes completely.

You don't hear much about a rising suicide rate, do you?

Maybe its dropping...
