If I contribute 400 per annum to these collections are these classified as donations and is it possible for the Church to claim tax rebate. Hope that makes sense. I heard recently of a parishioner in another diocese gave so much to the church. A receipt came out at the end of the year with a form to be sent in to the Revenue in order for the church to claim a tax rebate on the donation.

I am not too sure about the specifics of making a donation to a church, but details of the scheme are on the Revenue website here:

For a charity to reclaim PAYE on a donation, you need to donate EUR250 or more in the tax year (does not have to be in one payment), complete a form CHY2 (available via the link above) and send it to the charity.
