The story is - we went to a shop to buy some baby gear, with the shops brochure under our arm. The advertised brochure price was €750 but the price advertised in the shop was €849. We queried the difference and were told 'oh it's a mistake, the company is an English company, this is their only Irish store and they got the price wrong'. Does anyone know how we would find out our rights, ie. do they have to sell at the brochure price? Please note we checked the brochure for smallprint along the lines of 'prices subject to change without notice' but it isn't there.

Prices displayed in-store or on ads or brochures are only an invitation to treat -- no requirement to honour them provided they correct it before you complete the transaction.

You might be able to complain to the ASAI that the brochure was misleading advertising. However, self-published brochures may not fall under their remit, and the ASAI can only punish offenders, not compensate consumers.

The price in the brochure is an invitation to treat. It is not an offer to conduct business at that price.

If you feel that there is a real intention to deceive with regard to misleading prices, you should make a complaint to the Director of consumer affairs

Thanks for that. I accept it was an error but shelling out an extra 100 euro wasn't in the budget I guess. I took the brochure in good faith.

Ever read the small print n the backs of these brochures?
"Prices of all items listed are correct at time of print"

These brochures could have only been printed two days beforehand and this statement is just to cover their own mistakes and change of price without a reason for doing so. Rubbish i know, but thats good aul rip-off-ireland for ya!
