Previous Tax Refunds due?

With the recent announcements that the Revenue overcharged many paye earners, and they had been refunded, I thought I'd do the same.

Can someone out there advise what forms need to be sent in, and if they've done same, roughly how long it takes for the refund if applicable?

I'm also leaving the country to go travelling for a year, so I'd be due a refund on the remainder of the year that I will not be paying tax, for this I submit a Form P50, along with my P45, correct?

Thanks in advance.

The 1st thing you should do is look at the revenue website at the list of tax credits and see if you are (or were in the previous 4 years) entitled to any of them you don't have. If not, you won't be due any refunds so you're wasting your own time, but if if so you can download form 12 from the website. Then fill in the form(s) and send it along with your P60 for that year(s) to your tax district, which can be found from the website by inputting your PPS into their 'contact locator'.
Also, to claim credits for the current year such as bin charges, trade union subscpirtions etc (full list on the website), all you need to do is fill out short form on the website and you and your employer will automatically get an updated tax credit certificate sent out.

Bear in mind that you might be one of the minority of paye taxpayers who would have underpaid tax for any of the years in question!
