Premier Seats in UCI Cinemas

Has anyone else experienced these UCI premium seats? I'm afraid I can't recommend them at all. I'm loathe to say it's an example of "Rip Off Ireland", but it is an example of another business taking advantage of Irish consumers willing to unthinkingly splurge their surplus cash yet again. Was in UCI Tallaght earlier this week and was offered a "Premium Seat" when purchasing the tickets for the showing that I going to.

The price was €10.45, which is €1.50 more expensive than the normal seat price for an adult in the evening - €8.95. I asked what the difference was, and was simply told "they're more expensive". No further information was forthcoming.

Having experienced premium seats in a cinema in Manchester a couple of years ago, I decided to see what it would be like here. Over there, premium seats meant a 2 seater sofa in a cordoned off area of the cinema, with waiter/waitress service which would bring you beer/popcorn/icecream etc.

In UCI Tallaght, the premium seats are a different shaped seat at the back of the cinema. They're actually more uncomfortable than the normal seats, and the advertised greater legroom is negligable.
 
Yes.... but this is Ireland and you paid more for them.... so, like, they must be better :p

Thanks for the warning. Can't say I've ever been offered the premier seats, I feel so cheated and yet so happy all at the same time.
 
Is it still possible to hear all the mobile phones going off from the "premium seats" ? The movie experience just wouldn't be the same without someone close by lighting up the area with their constant texting ! I am often tempted to ask what could be so important that you can't switch off your mobile phone for 90 minutes and just enjoy the film.
 
UCI Coolock is undergoing a revamp at the moment and I noticed the new seats but I didn't realise you had to pay extra for them. I agree they are not very comfortable and I certainly wouldn't pay extra to sit in them.

Most films these days are free seating so I can't see how they could charge extra. I usually try to get there early and get a decent seat at the back so I didn't realise the seats were different further down.
 
I have sat in the premier seats for the last two films I went to see - it was choose your own seats so I didn't pay extra for them. They are bigger, plenty of room on either side of chair, they have an extra deep cup holder but like an above poster I also found them to be very uncomfortable. They are not worth the extra money.
 
Movies at Dundrum have a mezzanine area in one screen, with 3 rows of business-class type seats. If you pay for the Mezz seats (€15 a pop iirc), you get a glass of wine or soft drink plus popcorn on the way in. The real advantage is that you are fairly sure you won't end up sitting beside a gang of giggle kids for the duration.
