Pre-paying in full for accommodation in Paris - what protection do we have

We have just booked a few days in Paris for the third week of July. It's been fairly hard to find a place that fits our requirements ( space as we have an almost 17 year old - decent enough area, price etc) Finally found one via Trip Advisor/FlipKey but the owner wants payment in full up front via paypal, we'd be using our Mastercard.

We are both a bit worried about this, we did a similar thing years ago in Rome and the place turned out to be a dump in a well dodgy area that we walked out of the following morning, eventually getting most of our money back.

Does the fact we are paying on M/C via Paypal offer us any kind of protection if for instance the room/area/facilities are not as described? At this stage I am tempted to risk it but OH is not so sure!

I used www.yellowstay.com for rent a studio Apt in Paris last May - they are excellent - their agent will meet you with the keys etc & they are available by phone, if you have any problems etc. Their prices were very reasonable & we stayed right beside The Elysée Palace , so the location was premier classe !
