Pre-mortgage credit rating query

I am a bit confused over best route to take and would be grateful for any guidance on this one.

Myself and my partner are currently saving for a deposit. We should be in a position to buy in about a years time which isn't that long away. The only thing that concerns me is to this point neither of us have applied for any loans from banks. I've heard that this can ultimately give us a bad credit rating as they have nothing to check against for risk factor etc.

Can anyone advise if this is true or not?

If this is the case it may be an idea for us to apply for a loan now (more so to show we have good reputation of paying back)?

I hope this makes sense and I look forward to hearing some responses.

I had no loans ever and applied for a mortgage, got it fine.

A lack of a credit rating is not a bad sign.

A savings record is most important. No credit card debts, no personal loans, and strong savings = a good customer.

Taking out a loan now will affect how much you can borrow.

Thats good news to hear. If i had of taken out a loan it woudl have only been a small one - but in saying that it was not a route I wanted to go down. Thanks for clarifying.
The hard part now is getting the rest of the deposit together.
