Pre Approved Loan

I have just received a letter from AIB pre-approving me for a car loan. Have to say it disappoints me that AIB have gone down the junk mail route. Not only are they offering me loans I don't want, their letter states that (as my personal banking advisor - jaysus) they will contact me next week to discuss my requirements - ffsake. When I got a car loan a couple of years back AIB , as MY bank with MY business , would not match the APR of a car loan Bank of Ireland offered me - even though I had no business with BOI. Getting more and more tempted to jump ship to PTSB.

IFSRA are trying to get this practice banned.

Bank Of Ireland do it, (or at least did about two years ago).
One Direct constantly does it.
PTSB also do it.

I'm not surprised AIB have gone don this road, but like you a little dissapointed. One of the downsides of competition I'm afraid. One way to know that the Irish Banking industry has been very uncompetitive is that Cold Calling and Junk mail hasn't been a huge problem. It's been there but not overwhelming.
