Go for coffee/a guided tour of the Municipal House — fabulous building. If you're at all into music I'd strongly recommend an evening concert in the [broken link removed] Hall.

Re: Prague weekend - recommendations?

Being there just a year ago, pretty cold...I would recommend if the weather is not to bad one of the walking tours, there is plenty of info at the arrivals hall at the airport. The jewish quarter is also worthy to visit (we were staying in an aparment block where we could see the cementery.....freaky). People there is very nice, and they really appreaciate the efforf we make trying to learn a few words like please, thanks, and the likes.

I went there a single man and came home a fiance. But I still have fond memories of Prague ;).

I am sure a lot has changed in the intervening 8 years but I am sure the sheer buzz of the place remains.

The place does something to you - it just a magical city.

All the places mentioned above are good to see. Word of warning, watch out for the taxi men, they will try to rip you off. Ask for the price before you get in!

Just back from a weekend in Prague.

I want to give a recommendation for the hotel we stayed in.

Hotel Julian, 3 star, 10-15 minutes walk to city centre, trams to centre, one minute walk from door. Its a charming old building, very comfortable rooms and spotlessly clean. Great location, great breakfast, helpful staff and they offer a taxi service for collection from the airport. They have a lovely lobby with complimentary tea, coffee and cakes in the mornings. And good value.

Anyway their address is http://www.julian.cz/

But we got the room a little cheaper on octopus.com.

Was in Prague last February and used the above company for airport pick up and return to the airport. They were very reliable and I have since recommended them to friends who also used them. Pricewise they are very resonable and safer than picking up a taxi.

The weather was cold (about -5 to -10) but it was a dry cold, no wind.
So once you had your hat, scarf and gloves and a good coat, it was fine walking around. And even though its meant to be the off-season, there were plenty of tourists about. And stalls selling glúh-wein :)

When we came out of the castle on Saturday, it had started snowing and it was just fabulous - its such a beautiful city and the snow added to the atmosphere.

So yes, I would totally recommend it for a weekend away.

On another note, there is a huge range of prices depending on when you go.

We went to a 'local' pub near the hotel on the first night and it was 29 kroner (E1.05) for a beer (500ml.) We went to an Irish pub in the tourist centre to watch the rugby on Saturday and the same beer was 75kroner (E2.60).
