Anyone got any recommendations on activities or places to see around Portumna? Indoor options for kids would be marvellous as the weather dosesn't look hopeful.
Any tips or pointers much appreciated.

Probably not much to do indoors...

Plenty to do outdoors though:

- Forest walks & picnic in Portumna Forest Park
- Leisure centre with pool in Shannon Oaks Hotel
- Take a boat out on the Shannon (contact Emerald Starline)
- Visit Portumna Castle & Abbey
- Play a round of golf at Portumna Golf Club
- Pitch and Putt and 9 hole golf course at Oldthort (1 mile out Tynagh road)
- Horse riding (just over Shannon on the Tipp side) and other location about 6 miles out Tynagh road
- Go Karting (biggest track in Europe) about 8 miles out the Tynagh road

Hi

how about Turoe pet farm ? I guess its about a 30min drive from Portumna.
hers the blurb on a link I found to it: Cuddle and feed the animals, visit the pets corner, and follow the nature trail. Indoor play areas include Ireland's first "Inflatable City", a ball pond, adventureland, bouncing castles and games room. Outdoor amenities include a football pitch and playgrounds with swings, slide, and a tree house.

so there may be things to do indoors inbetween the showers...
my niece was there on a school toor...all seemed to go well. Heard more about the animals from her (but then she is only 6) than any of the indoor activities.

There is a cinema in Nenagh (30 min drive) so you could take them there if its wet. [broken link removed]

Have a nice weekend,
