The following is from Honestjohn:

By 2007 reports of various problems with the electric power steering were starting to emerge. These include loose racks, failed racks, stiff steering with no 'feel' and failed steering column top bearings.

Doesn't appear to be a very widespread problem. Not a lot of detail I know but broadly speaking , are problems like these expensive to fix?
 
A replacement rack will be expensive. The other issues mentioned less so.
 
Thanks RS2K - any idea of cost for replacement rack - are we into four figures?
 
No idea tbh. There's a nice bit of work removing and refitting one. The part will not be cheap either.
