Hi
I was wondering if anyone knew what grants are available to postgrad students. I am doing a HDip in Education in Trinity starting in September. I am over 23 years of age so i know I would qualify as a mature student so was just wondering if anyone had any advice.

Thanks

Sarah

You may be entitled to claim tax relief, if you are paying the tuition fees yourself.

Check out your county council website. There should be plenty of info there

Being a mature student, you're entitled to have your course paid for along with additional payments.

This depends on your circumstances i.e. living at with parents, how far you live from Trinity and other related issues.

Trinity offers a number of [broken link removed], but I think these are mainly for Masters/Doctoral programmes, rather than the H. Dip.

When I did my H. Dip. at UCD (years ago), they used to hire a half-dozen of us each year as part-time 'demonstrators' — working in the Teaching Resource Centre — and the rates were pretty good at the time. Maybe you could enquire from the [broken link removed] at Trinity..?

I think this applies only to undergraduate/primary degree courses — although I'm open to correction!

I'll correct you so!

I'm in the process of applying for a HDip in Finance after doing a Computer Engineering degree and working in a bank for a year.

The link below for Kildare Co Co indicates postgrads are covered also depending on circumstances.

Hey
Thanks a mill for all the advice. I have requested an application form for a Higher Education Grant from Dublin City Council.

Thanks again

The tax relief available for recognised postgraduate courses is 20% You could also try doing exam invigilation/tutoring in your basic degree subjects. Neither pay particularly well but might help keep your head above water.
