Postage Method for online sales

Hi,

I am in the process of setting up a website to sell specialist t-shirts online. I have a few questions that I am hoping that posters may be able to help with.

When I am posting the t-shirts worldwide, what is the most cost effective method? Is An Post the only method for a small business?

Also, do I need to label the packages in a certain way?

I regularly post shirts to Canada and US and post them in a4 brown envelope with envelpe sellotaped down. I use the green custom labels and put value down as $5 - penneys tshirts
