Hi all,

I was made redundant last year and was automatically eligible for JSB. I chose to relocate to Germany before Christmas in search for work there and transferred mu JSB for the maximum period of 3 months (I did not find work there). I am now back in Ireland and my JSB has expired. I am going on a trip to Asia for approximately 6 months starting in the beginning of March and at the end of this period (Oct 2013) I will return to Ireland & hopefully find another job.
My question is this....should I initiate a claim for JSA at this point? I will really only be in Ireland for another 3 weeks before I go...financially it might not be worth the hassle but are there other reasons as to why I should proceed with the application?

Thanks and Regards

If you are seeking work for the short term you should begin your claim for JSA and inform them the day before you go that you will be abroad indefinitely.

It may be easier to re-activate a claim when you return and may or may have work immediately

Thanks for your reply Black Sheep.
I am not seeking work here at this point as I will be leaving the country within weeks. I think I will talk to the social welfare office about my circumstances.
