Hi, What is the average length of time for a package to come from the UK? Ordered a book from play.com 2 weeks ago and still haven't received it. thanks.

In my recent experience it can be anything from a couple of days to about 6 weeks!

Just received stuff ordered from the UK via eBay and other sources about 2-3 weeks ago today. But, as Leo says it can vary a lot.

Think they have first and second class post? I had three packages posted last Wednsday arrive safe and sound yesterday but that was by First. I often had to wait two weeks plus for second class items.

Just noticed that one package that arrived today was posted on the 21st and was Royal Mail signed for priority handling/registered.

I have had letters delivered using Royal Mail's "Air Sure" service on 3 occasions in the past. It is possible to track the status/location online. However each time the delivery has said delivered (online) but in reality they were sitting in the local post office. They seem to make it over from the UK quite quickly but then sit in the local post office for an indefinite length on time. Might be worth checking out

"Signed For" Post from UK

If it's "Signed For" post, as opposed to "Special Delivery" post, then it may also have been sent 2nd class.

"Signed For" can go 1st or 2nd, depending on the weight. It's supposed to guarantee that an item will be signed for only and doesn't guarantee speed of delivery.

What does "priority handling" as specified on the Royal Mail label mean so?

Not sure...

I've just looked at a "Special Delivery" label and a "Signed For" label and I can't Priority Handling stated on either.

So - I'm not sure...

Play stuff comes from Jersey, I think.

Normally takes 5-8 days after the 'Your item has been despatched' email.

royal mail appear to have a number of services. I know of someone who posted wedding invites to Ireland from UK earlier in summer. some were delivered, some weren't. turned out that royal mail had intercepted about half of them as underpaid ( postage for internal uk only was on them) and had held them up for about a month before Returning them to the sender.

Are you implying that there's something wrong with a postal company rejecting mail with insufficient postage?

We sometimes got mail from UK ages late and stamped "Insufficient Postage" especially birthday cards, etc.!!

This is beacuse the sender has probably used a standard 1st or 2nd class stamp, which is for internal UK use only.

Instead they should have used a euro stamp which is twice the price of a 1st class stamp.

Just received a package from the Uk last week I had given up on..........it took 5 1/2 weeks. Wasn't even a big box or anything just a large jiffy envelope. Don't give up hope

Thanks for all the replies - have a note in the door today that there is a package for me in the sorting office. Hopefully, it's the book !

no CM I wasnt implying that RM was out of order. just happen to know that because some of the invites were delivered that An Post took a lot of stick for missing post until the cards were returned to sender with the explanation of under paid postage.
