Possible to seal a very leaky tap?

Hi there,

Stupidly, broke the rubber (more like rock-hard plastic) seal on the tap attachments for a shower I was trying to install. They were so hard to get on I forced them and they cracked badly (the 'rubber' seal inside). Unsurprisingly, the water is just pouring back out instead of into the shower hose. Short of buying a whole new shower set is there anything I can get that I could inject between the attachment and the tap to seal it up?

Can you not go to a plumber's merchant and get a set of seals? Alternatively contact the manufacturer of the shower and get a set from them?

For future reference, a drop of washing-up liquid makes a very good lubricant for placing seals.

I know. I did everything wrong! I'm not sure a set of something is what I need, I would need something liquid to inject between the tap and the attachment, if that makes sense.

As Billk is alluding to, bring the piece you broke to a plumbers merchants, they'll most likely have replacements in stock or at least will be able to get them for you.

Bodging a fix will never give a good result.

Thanks Leo, to be honest I'm just going to go and get a new, cheap shower. Can't wait for parts and stuff.

The better plumbers merchants will most likely have what you need in stock, but replacing the whole thing will also work.
