I was wondering if its possible for an Irish person living in Ireland to open a US bank account?

You will probably need a social security number to open an account. If you have ever worked in the US you probably had a number for tax purposes etc. I dont think you can open an account there without it.

i'm almost sure you can.
i know td ameritrade let you open an account for share trading, which also lets you hold money as a cash balance although the interest rate won't be great

saverman, is it a bank acc in the USA you want, or just a USD acc here?
If it's an acc in the USA I would imagine that's difficult to do without a U.S. address, but if you have USD and you want to open an acc here ai would imagine your bank should oblige, acc would prob be held with their head office rather than your local branch
