Possible lay-off..

So we have been told in work between mid October and Christmas 25 of us will be laid off temporarily. The thing is when they call us back to work, they want us to quote a price for the job to be done, we'll have to do up our own invoices, get a c2 and possibly get an accountant to file our taxes. Somewhere in between all this they told us if we got another job while being laid off to take it. Doesn't that affect our entitlement to redundancy? What if I don't wish to go through all the hassle of getting all the above and don't wish to work for them in that way, how will it affect our redundancy? It's going to affect 25 of us, I just want to know where we all stand

If your employers want you to come back as self employed, it sounds like you are being laid off permanently.

are we still entitled to redundancy then? I haven't a clue about any of this kinda stuff. What if we don't wish to become self employed? I for one couldn't afford to, it'd mean getting a C2, an accountant to file tax returns,

You dont give details of how exactly you were employed. Were you an employee paying tax,PRSI etc etc ? If so then it seems you are a "proper" employee with entitlements to redundancy, dole etc.
Surely your boss can't be that ignorant that he wouldnt know that -sounds dodgy to me.
Frankly, if there are 25 of you in this situation then you should immediately get help, either free from Employments rights people (on web) or through a lawyer - between 25 persons it wouldnt cost much each. I'd try both.
Maybe you should tell employer before you do anything that you are pixxed off and want proper statutory rights.

If you are there more than two years as a full time employee you should be entitled to redundancy but if less that that I believe he can let you go. Did he break your job during anytime in the last two years ?
