Possibility of work and JSB/JSA queries

Hi all,

Hoping someone might be able to help with another query of mine.

I'm currently on JSB, with my husband as a QA and we have 3 children.

There is a possibility that I may be lucky enough to pick up 10/15 hours a week of work.

My query is if I got this, would this in any way affect my JSB and/or my husband and kids as QA/QC?

Also, my JSB should change to JSA around June - if I got this job, would my then JSA be affected?

And last question, please, I'm applying to do a 3rd level course in Sept - if I still had these hours of work, and on SW - would my welfare payment be affected?

Hope my queries are clear, and thanks again for any advice.

Yes, work will affect your entitlement to JSB (and JSA).

You can only be paid JSB/JSA for a full day of unemployment - if your working hours are spread across the week (e.g. 3 hrs per day x 5 days), you could lose your entitlement altogether. If this is the case, your husband may be able to make a claim (if he is available for and seeking work).

If you start 3rd level college, you will only be entitled to a payment from DSP if you have applied for and qualify for Back to Education Allowance. If you are eligible for Back to Education Allowance, you will retain whatever jobseeker payment you are on immediately prior to commencing the course.

If you do not qualify for Back to Education Allowance, then you would be considered a full-time student and not available for work, and therefore not eligible for a Jobseeker's payment.

Say instead of it being 3 hrs per day x 5 days, but it was 2 5 hr shifts per week would this be a better financial benefit to me?

Yes it would be better for you - you could claim for the days you're not working so you wouldn't lose all of your JSB (or JSA when the time comes).
