Hi Folks,

I hope to have a contract for a few months work, starting in Dec and going to March 2012.

At the moment i am in receipt of Job Seekers Benefit and i am wondering about the signing off process.

1. Can I ask the social welfare department to suspend my payment, the reason i ask because i heard that you have to go through the process all over again?

Do they gave you that option knowing up front that its only 4 months work and as far as i am aware their is no possibility of full time or anything like that.

Thanks for your time.

Also i believe you can sign off online, correct me if im wrong?

Regards

Your claim will be closed, but it can be easily reopened if you are without work at the end of your contract time. Anything less than six months and your claim is simply linked back to your last claim and you carry on where you left off.

Is the work self-employed or employed? If it is on an employed basis, then you will also be getting stamps which could help you re-qualify for JObseekers Benefit if/when it runs out.

Slightly OT, but linked in a way.

I notified the welfare office that I was about to start a contract. I was told that they would cease the payments (JB).

Before I started the contract, I was told that it was no lnger available. When I went up to welfare to get my JB reinstated I was told that the case was closed and a new application (with interviews etc) would be necessary.

I can't understand why it is not possible to reopen the file. Does anyone know how I can get back onto the scheme without having to go through all the stuff again (and wait a few weeks for the payment to come through)?

To be honest, OP, I would be very slow to tell the welfare that you have got a job. Wait a few weeks until you are sure of the position and then let them know. Of course you will owe them back the money, and they will rightfully take it off you, but at least it it does go wrong you are still covered.
