Portlaoise

In January I will be returning to Ireland after several years in Paris, and will be working in the centre of Dublin. I am looking for somewhere in or around Portlaoise to live but as I will be starting work at 6am I am worried about how best to commute (expect I will have no choice but to drive).

Any of you able to tell me a bit about this area?? Is it safe, does it have good schools?? are there areas that should be avoided ??

Really any help would be appreciated.

This previous thread discusses Portlaoise. There are others in this forum if you run the search option.

Looking here it seems as if you might need to drive to be in Dublin by 6 a.m.

Hope your return goes well. It might be a good idea for you to rent for a while just in case you don't like either Portlaoise or the long drive to/fro every day.
