Podcast feeds (jPodder) - should the podcaster be active?

New to podcasts - sorry if this seems stupid.

I downloaded podcasting software (JPodder) and have pasted in the feeds for my favourite Radio 4 programmes.

Do I minimise it now or close it?
Does it activate itself to check for latest editions of my programmes?
Is it supposed to be in the System tray like other programmes running in the background?

What is its status supposed to be?

thanks

I expect it has to be active in some way, either via the System Tray or running in background mode, so as it can connect out to the source. Check your Task Manager to see if there is a jpodder.exe or similar running. It probably starts on boot-up and minimises then for the duration. But I'm only guessing, sorry, I don't use it. I use iTunes, does pretty much the same as far as I can see.
