Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help - please!

I was on JS benefit for approx 5 months - 3 weeks back I became ill, went to the doctor who deemed me unfit for work for a few weeks - I start submitting certs to social welfare - and got a letter from them today stating that I am not entitled to illness benefit due to my contributions for the "relevant year" which is 2007! In 2007 I went on career break (the only break I had in employment in 13 years) in 2007 I had a total of 27 contributions (18 were paid 9 were credited)

In order to qualify for illness benefit I have to have had
*104 PRSI cont. since I first started working (which I do have)
*Must have 39 PRSI cont. paid or credited in 2007

If I do not have the 39 in 2007 I can have
*26 contributions paid in 2006 & 2007

again I am screwed as I do not have 26 PAID contributions in 2007

Ok that is fair enough, I can live with not getting illness benefit for another few weeks, I should hopefully be better in the next 2 weeks!

What I am so worried about now is - now when I go to go back on Job Seekers Benefit will I not get it??? As the criteria for JB Benefit is the same as illness benefit.. Will I be treated as a brand new claim? Or will it still be classed as the same claim?

I am extremely anxious and worried!

I would be grateful of any advise
Thank you

Once the break in your JB claim is less than 13 weeks, it will not be treated as a new claim when you sign on again.
