Play.com - declining credit card?

Hi,

Just tried buying Singstar from play.com - all went fine, got the order confirmation email then got another email saying they needed to verify my address because my bank's declined my credit card as it's not the same name/address on the card as on my billing address.

Billing address is exactly as it is on my credit card. I did change the delivery address to my mother's - would that make a difference??

I have tried the number they said to ring - it's "not available at this time". I tried emailing them back but it bounced back. I tried the UK number but can't get through on that.

Any ideas how else to contact them?

Thanks,

Muffin

Think something similar happened to me...the address has to be exactly the same, punctuation, spelling. I mean identical.

The fact that your delivery and billing addresses are different should not make any difference - I get all my play.com orders delivered to my work address.
Might you have mixed up the delivery and billing addresses when you entered them (i.e. put your mum's address as billing and yours as delivery)?

my first order with them i had the same, had to ring them to confirm order

hi guys

thanks for replying. I did double check the addresses i put in and everything is correctly input where it should be. PC7 - do you remember what number you phoned? I tried their "outside of the UK" number but it's not working.

thanks

M

sorry muffin it was just whatever was on the site, think it was a number up north

I recently had an order on another UK site declined as there as a problem with my credit card.

My bank explained that a few UK retailers have updated their credit card verification systems but that these systems don't tie into the Irish banking system and so they can't verify the addresses.

So, if you ever do get through to Play, ask them to contact your bank directly and manually authorise the payment.

I had the same problem. What did u put down for postcode? If u don't live in dublin u need to put 'n/a' in the postcode box. I put 1234 and got the same email about address. Rang play.com and they said to put n/a and it went through fine.

I'm also having the same problem. Couldn't get through on the phone.

Sent them an email 2 days ago. They gave me a ticket number.

I just emailed them back and told them if it isn't sorted out tomorrow to cancel my order

I have an MBNA credit card and I know when I bought a computer from Dell it said on their website that the delivery address must be the one on file with the credit card company.

As the computer was for my brother I rang MBNA and told them my problem. They said that it wasn't a problem, they would add the additional address to my file and I could select either one when purchasing from Dell etc.

I've had no problems since.

What phone number are you trying for play.com? Try 00 44 28 90921724. It is the landline number behind their UK freephone number. I got through on it a few month's ago.

Register another account and you'll be fine!! I have 2 play.com accounts because for some reason the address thing kept happening from one account and when I re-registered with the same card and addresses but another email I had no problems.

Murt, I got the exact same email this morning from play. I had emailed the helpdesk@play.com email yesterday and had been given a ref. no. as well. I ended up cancelling my order last night and bought what I wanted through my husband's log in instead (he's bought stuff from play before).

Still, hopefully it means I'll be able to buy other things from them in future. They seem to be very good value - the singstar with mics I bought from them for €43 - the same thing is €60 in the shops...

Thanks guys

M

ps: MB05 - that was the number that wasn't working yesterday if memory serves me right... tried it several times and got the automated voice saying it wasn't available - very annoying when you have no other way of getting through to them ...
