Plastic bag for liquids with carry on luggage

Flying with Aer Lingus Tuesday - just have hand luggage - have never flown before with just hand luggage. I know we have to put liquids into plastic pouch or plastic bag and have to be less than 100 ml (mine are all 50 ml and less) but are they strict with the size of the bag - we have a see through one I got in M &S with an zip on it - will this suffice or does it have to be those bags they give you in the airport? Also is eye shadow counted as liquid?

Thanks in advance

the bag shouldn't be bigger than one litre but doesn't have to be one from the airport - I quite often use a freezer bag.

Eyeshadow doesn't need to go in the bag

A cream eye shadow might. I never know if a liquid compact is a liquid or not, same with mascara, lip gloss. I can usually fit them in the bag and nothing has been said but do wonder.
