Planning Permission when owning a house already

Evening all,

I have a query in relation to planning permission. I live with my partner in a house in my area around ten minutes from my house. I hope to build a house next to my parents' house in the future as I will take over the family farm from my father. I'm trying to do a bit of research on how likely it is that I'll be refused permission due to owning a house in the area before approaching the planners. Does anyone have any experience of this? Based in Monaghan if that makes any difference. Thanks

I don’t have any identical experience but being from the area originally and working locally, especially in farming, is a bonus.

If you are building a house, you will need an architect.

Contact a local architect now who would know what would be allowed in your area.

It might take time to get permission, so maybe start the process sooner rather than later. You don't need to build immediately as the permission lasts for 5 years. And you can usually extend it.

The FB page Self Build and Renovation is a good place to look at cases too, this question comes up very regularly so a quick search or ask the question again for that area might give you some info.

Thank you both! The Self Build and Renovation page is actually where I came upon the issue. It looks to be varied across the country. Have a lovely day
