Does anyone know if i need planning permission to move the front door of my house. Other neighbours in the area have moved their door and i seriously doubt they applied for permission but my architect is saying that i do need it!!

Re: Planning Permission

As far as I know you do - you need permission to put in skylights or anything like that in case it affects your neighbours. View and all that. But one call to your local council office will tell you. You'd probably get away with not getting permission even if it's required, but that would present problems when you go to sell up.

Re: Planning Permission

as far as i know, you cant make changes to the front of your house without planning permission, you could just do it and apply for retention!!

If you do need PP and are intending on following the above advice, would it not be better to apply for PP in the first instance to save yourself from getting a illegal development record which may impact on future PP applications you make? Why cause yourself unnecessary problems.

You may or may not need PP - check with the planning advice office of your local authority. If you do need PP, and other houses in the area have already moved front door, then you'll almost certainly succeed.

fingal county council have all their planning stuff online its a fantastic site you can search by map / address etc and see whats been applied for in the area. your local council might have the same service
