planning permission needed to remove a sliding door on front elevation?

There is a sliding door on the front elevation of my house. It is on the ground floor, to the left of the front porch - in some houses that is where the garage would be, but it never was a garage, the house is unaltered in that respect.

The house has had other alterations done, including a conservatory out the back, and an additional room added above the room with the sliding doors. All done with planning permission by the previous owner.

I am thinking of replacing the sliding doors with a window, same width but built up from the bottom to the height of about 3 or 4 blocks, then pebbledashing that in to match the existing exterior.

Will I need PP for such a minor change to the facade?

IMHO it would be considered a non-material change to the overall development. Most Local Authorities would not require you to get permission for such an alteration. However, phone your Planning Office to confirm as some Planners have different opinions.

I would apply for a Section 5 Declaration from the Planning Office even if it is exempted development. This is basically a letter from the Planning Authority telling you that the works you propose do not require planning permission. It costs €80 which is a lot of money for a piece of paper, but at the end of the day it is an invaluable record in case if/when you sell your house in the future, a solicitor for the purchaser requires proof that the changes do not require permission.
