Planning Permission for a well??

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know If planning permission is required to drill a well. I have just got permission for a house in a rural area. On my application i said that I would be connecting to a local group water scheme. Now I find out that because the house is on high ground the pressure is crap! Can I just go ahead and drill a well?
