Planning Permission and Mortgage

I was hoping someone could advise me on this.
My girlfriend and I are saving for a deposit at the moment but won't have the amount for the total of our mortgage saved for about 6 months.

We would like to buy a plot of land in the countryside probably meath to build a Log home on. Many of the plots we have looked at are "Subject to Planning" and the bank have told us that they will lend us up to 370k of which we estimate we need about 250k in total for the foundations and the house (so not a bad mortgage).

Is it possible if it is subject to planning permission being obtained that we can approach to buy a piece of land and by the time the planning is through we have got our mortgage deposit saved? We know there may be problems with planning permission and log homes even though they are environmentally sound, energy efficient etc. So we are prepared to really fight our case about the planning.

Hi Loopydub
Good luck with the fighting. We had three planning consultations with a COCO planner and got it in writing that he was happy with the revised plans only to receive a list of onerous conditions to adhere to prior to receiving full planning. This even included building an enbankment in front of the house so that it wouldn't be seen from the road and basically changing the entire front of the house.
I'd speak to the planning dept first regarding the possibility of building a log cabin and restrictions surrounding same.

thanks for the advice. We will definitely contact the County Council.
There is bias towards wooden houses but I think it is beginning to change a bit.
The good thing in is there are tax reductions on solar panels and wood chip burning etc.
