Planning a short trip to the West of Ireland

Hi All,

Hopefully someone can help me on this one. I want to show a foreign friend a bit of the west of Ireland - just a four or five day trip that hopefully won't include too much driving. The problem is, I'm having real difficulty deciding where to go and what to do so I'm looking for ideas. I was thinking of maybe the following

Stay for two nights in Galway city (no idea where!) and from there do:

A day in Connemara & Kylemore Abbey and
a day trip to Inis Mor - Is this enough time do you think?

Then I was thinking of spending two nights in either Clare or Limerick and try and take in

Cliffs of Moher
The Burren
Bunratty Castle
Glinn castle

Again, I have zero idea where to stay, or where even the right location would be. Does anyone have ideas? Is there something else that I really should take my friend other than the above? Should I apportion more time for what I've planned?

We'll be going mid-week from Monday to Friday so if anyone knows of any hotel deals I'd appreciate the info.

Why not stay out in Clifden - I stayed in the station house hotel there and it was nice. You could spend the day around Galway city on the way, but head out there in the evening. Spend the time actually in Connemara.

Then do the things you mentioned in Clare, don't forget Doolin - it might be the place to stay in due to the great sessions they have down there. Bunratty is nice too for the day trip.
You cannot go too wrong. They will get a good look at things with what you have listed yourself.
 
Kylemore Abbey wonderful (tesco do days out vouchers there, also heritage island as far as I remember offer a two for one on adult prices), check out letterfrack furniture college if interested furniture displays etc.

Bunratty is brillant (again check the net for vouchers etc) also knappogue castle and gardens is supposed to be worth while but the day we visited a wedding was on and whole place shut...

salthill hotel lovely and can do good prices,

ferry from doolin is a great way to see the cliffs of moher (again on tesco vouchers), also corrib cruises in galway city lovely way to pass an afternoon (again on the tesco vouchers)....
 
I'd recommend doing a bus tour. It's very informative and you and your friend will learn a lot and visit a lot more places than you might plan for. Doolin is a defo. Lisdoonvarna too. Try plan around some events in Galway maybe.

If you look at previous post not at their Hotel prices!!!! Galway has a history of upping their rates more than any other place I know during events. I love to get away around Ireland I love Galway for a day trip but I dont like to be 'fleesed' what I find happens to me in Galway.
 
If planning a visit to the Aran Islands and you're going to go to Clare anyway I'd recommend a day trip to InisOirr from Doolin. InisMor is great but by far the most commercialised of the three islands.
