PIAB without solicitor

I was recently in a car accident which wasn't my fault. The other driver admitted liability and his insurance wrOte off my car and have sent me a cheque to cover.

I suffered whiplash and going for treatment.

I wondered do many people go through the PIAB system without the help of a solicitor? I just think that the award will be relativky small and I'd prefer not yo hand over 3k to a solicitor.

Also is there any evidence to suggest that using a solIcitor can result in a larger payout at the end, I.e., comPensate for solIcitor fees?
