Am a bit interested in photography and was looking to take some photos of Dublin...georgian architecture, people, streets, that sort of thing. Any recommnedations on where to go? Was thinking Merrion SQ and Moore St.
Architecture:
- For Georgian also maybe consider Henrietta St. and Sandymount areas
- Donnybrook
- inside Dublin Castle (esp where the Garda Traffic dept. is located
Older parts of Dublin: Kilmainham, Inchicore Rd. (around Kilmainham Gaol), Liberties/Thomas St. area. There are some attractive cottages also in the Ringsend and Ballsbridge areas.
Scenic: canals (e.g. Patrick Kavanagh statue); Poolbeg Lighthouse; Phoenix Park; Herbert Park
City Centre
- obviously Trinity
- The Spire
- Luas
- Grafton St.
- Stephen's Green
- Temple Bar
Modern:
- inside Croke Park if you can get in when it's empty (or just after a match you can get usually on the pitch 15 mins or so after a game ends.)
- Dublin supporters on Hill 16 during the Championship (from the Hogan Stand)
- M50 gridlock/ construction (might be funny to look back at in 25 years!)
Thanks for those...somehow I think a photo of the M50 in 50 years time could be funny..."what were they complaining about, sure it's a 4 hour commute now"!!!
Any ideas around Dublin city for the morning sunrise / evening sunset??
Howth or Malahide
Dollymount (Bull Island) Sand dunes...
Basin Park (top of Blessington Street)
Phoenix Park (deer)
Merrion Square for park and houses...
Used to visit there as a kid. It was huge. Visited again recently. Seems to have shrunk. Interactive map of the gardens below which links to its website.
Well done to the OPW for keeping the place so well over the years
