phone line Rental

Hi,
I had an normal standard telphone account setup with a telecom provider. My bill was not paid in time so the service was disconnected over 2 months ago. They said it was set to "Temporarily out of Service". Now they tell me that I am liabale to pay the rent for the last 2 months even though the service was not available. The service will not be completely withdrawn untill the bill is paid in full.

I have no problem apying the bill but I feel I should not have to pay the rent for the time the service was not available.

Any advice is much appreciated.

The alternative is to have the line disconnected, and then pay a lot more for a new connection.

I reckon you would be better off paying the 'back' money even though you didn't have the use of the line.

I can't remember the re-connection charge, but I think it is something like €200 or so.

Thanks for you reply. I have no interest in continuing with the service. 200 sounds a lot. Are u sure? I thought there is a lot of competition in this area now. There is no way I am paying them another €200 for them to switch it on again.

Re-connection is something like €15-20 if the line is still intact
(they just lift the block on their system)

Hi Myname,

Was it eircom that was the telecom provider that cut you off, I've a friend working with them in thier call centre and how it works is a certain specified time they do a mass disconnection on every customer whose bill is overdue at that exact point(which is only 14 days from the issue).
So don't know how many but imagine could be talking of a thousand customers or so at a time, another reason I now pay the line rental to TalkTalk (same price) coz I don't think people should put up with that crap.

Problem I has at the moment is that I changed over to UTV talk back in November 04. I am supposed to be paying them my line rental but for some reason I have never been changed over so I am still paying 2 bills.

Calling UTV is pointless as they don't care, they have appalling CS which make Eircom look good, Eircom don't want to know they say call UTV. Where do I turn to next?
