Am moving into a rented house for the first time ever. The place is wired for a phone but doesn't have a line installed.

Can I apply for one as a tenant or would I have to go through the landlord? Anyone know how long the process takes from initial application?

Thanks

If its wired up and all you have to do is call eircom and get a number assigned, it will take about 2 days. This is your responsibility.
If eircom have to call to the house to do any works to get the line up and running then it is your landlords responsibility to do this and pay any costs involved.

Not necessarily

If you want a phone line in a rented property and it is not a term of the lease that there should be one it is you who should bear the cost

As a landlord, I would foot the bill to get it installed but not always
